Representing and Visualizing Calendar Expressions in Texts

چکیده
Temporal expressions that refer to a part of a calendar area in terms of common calendar divisions are studied. Our claim is that such a “calendar expression" (CE) can be described by a succession of operators operating on a calendar base (CB). These operators are categorized: a pointing operator that transform a CB into a CE; a focalizing/shifting operator that reduces or shifts the CE into another CE, and finally a zoning operator that provides the wanted CE from this last CE. Relying on these operators, a set of annotations is presented which are used to automatically annotate biographic texts. A software application, plugged in the platformNavitext, is described that builds a calendar view of a biographic text.

Representing Calendar Expressions with Finite-State Transducers that Bracket Periods of Time on a Hierachical Timeline
This paper proposes representing the semantics of natural-language calendar expressions as a sequence of compositions of finite-state transducers (FSTs) that bracket the denoted periods of time on a finite timeline of nested calendar periods. In addition to simple dates and times of the day, the approach covers more complex calendar expressions. The paper illustrates the model by walking throug...
متن کاملResources for Calendar Expressions Semantic Tagging and Temporal Navigation through Texts
The linguistic resources presented in this paper are designed for the recognition and semantic tagging of calendar expressions in French. While existing resources generally put the emphasis on describing calendar bases pointed out by calendar expressions (which are considered as named entities), our approach tries to explicit how references to calendar are linguistically built up, taking into a...
متن کاملRecognition and Normalization of Temporal Expressions in Serbian Texts
This paper presents a system for recognition and normalization of temporal expressions (TEs) in Serbian texts according to the TimeML specification language. Based on a finite-state transducers methodology, local grammars are designed to recognize calendar dates, times of day, periods of time and durations, to determine the extension of detected expressions, as well as to normalize their values...
متن کاملQuantification and Implication in Semantic Calendar Expressions Represented with Finite-State Transducers
This paper elaborates a model for representing semantic calendar expressions (SCEs), which correspond to the intensional meanings of natural-language calendar phrases. The model uses finite-state transducers (FSTs) to mark denoted periods of time on a set of timelines represented as a finite-state automaton (FSA). We present a treatment of SCEs corresponding to quantified phrases (any Monday; e...
متن کاملReprésentation des expressions calendaires dans les textes : vers une application à la lecture assistée de biographies
In this paper, first we examine the usual treatment of temporal information and we recall the main features relative to the temporality analysis in texts. Then we deal with the formal representation of calendar expressions, and we provide a functional approach, based on a categorical representation of ordinals. Finally, an ongoing application providing a help for the reading of long biography i...
